Neuf Cegetel Selects Redback Networks for Major Broadband Network Expansion; Redback's New SmartEdge 100 Router to Enable Next-Generation Services for Business Customers Across France
Business Wire, June 5, 2006
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Redback Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:RBAK), a leading provider of next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced that Neuf Cegetel, the leading alternative operator in France, has selected Redback Networks SmartEdge(R) 100 to support a new network expansion project for business broadband services.
Neuf Cegetel is one of the most innovative DSL service providers in France and is rapidly expanding business and consumer services across the country. Neuf Cegetel is working on multiple projects to deliver nationwide access and next-generation services that are expected to benefit local business customers leveraging the SmartEdge platform.
"During our beta tests, we found that the SmartEdge 100 matches our stringent network requirements because it gives us the flexibility to support our rapid subscriber growth and provide value-added broadband services to customers in extended parts of our network," said Francois Paulus, General Manager, Network & Marketing Division, Neuf Cegetel. "The SmartEdge 100's integrated platform also helps us to simplify our network and reduce operational costs through Redback's sophisticated routing and subscriber management capabilities."
Deregulation in the French market allows Neuf Cegetel to deploy advanced service offerings such as VPLS for business customers and IP-based services for residential subscribers. The new project utilizing the SmartEdge 100 naturally integrates with the existing portfolio of Redback's IP-enabled edge routing products currently being deployed within Neuf Cegetel's network.
"When your geographic customer base is an entire country, it is imperative to have a platform that is reliable, scalable and cost-efficient," said Magnus Almquist, vice president of sales and operations EMEA of Redback Networks. "We are pleased to be working with Neuf Cegetel to enable next-generation services for their business customers. At Redback, it's our business to deliver solutions that enable exciting new services that are aligned with the network-economic requirements of our customers."
