University of Virginia's Darden School of Business Selects Philosophy IB to Provide Innovative Executive Coaching Services; New MBA for Executives Program partners MBA Candidates with a Certified Executive Counselor
Business Wire, June 5, 2006
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Philosophy IB, a leading NJ-based management consulting firm, today announced that it will provide executive coaching services to The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. The internationally ranked business school will provide the coaching services to students pursuing its MBA for Executives as part of the program's Professional Advancement Course. The coaching services will help working professionals apply the skills and knowledge they learn as part of the MBA for Executives in real-time, on specific business initiatives.
"Coaching is a natural extension of our action-oriented program. It helps students to integrate their school and professional contexts," said Marian Moore, Professor of Business of Administration at The Darden School and Academic Director for the MBA for Executives. "We're pleased to be partnering with Philosophy IB. They are one of the few firms in the country with a track record in this innovative area."
As part of the MBA for Executives program, students will work with a certified executive coach on a leadership challenge that is specific to their organization. This action learning approach merges the academic experience with real-life business issues. Research indicates that this learning-by-doing approach is the most effective way for adults to learn. According to Malcolm S. Knowles, North Carolina State University, adults learn best by integrating their own experiences in the learning process.
"We are excited about working with The Darden School," said Kaveh Naficy, a founding partner at Philosophy IB. "We've done this for several years now and seen that professionals pursuing their MBA get a tremendous amount out of executive coaching. It anchors their learning in real-world business and leadership challenges. This format allows students to assume an engaged role as opposed to a passive role in their learning."
