Umundo Announces a New Video Distribution and Sharing Service for Mobile Phone Users; Debut of Free Service-Based Website Makes Mobile Video Sharing Easy for Publishing, Viewing and Sharing Clips on MySpace, My Yahoo!, iTunes, Google, and Personal Websites
Business Wire, June 6, 2006
FREMONT, Calif. -- Umundo, a start-up specializing in automatic content distribution technologies, today launched a new free online service for publishing, distributing and sharing video clips taken with camera-enabled phones or mobile devices. Umundo is designed to work directly with any mobile device through an easy, fast and fun Web interface. Video clips and pictures can be published to and viewed on popular web properties such as MySpace, My Yahoo!, Google and iTunes. Umundo also provides a flash player for users to view automatically updated video clips.
"There are millions of mobile users in the world equipped with camera phones," said Prashant Parekh, founder and CEO of the company. "With Umundo service, we enable mobile consumers to share their creativity instantaneously around the world, anytime anywhere."
Umundo is a free service and doesn't require registration or subscription. Video clips and pictures from camera phones and mobile devices can be sent directly via multimedia messaging service (MMS) or via e-mail.
"We have included e-mail as an option in addition to MMS, as more and more smart phones provide complete e-mail services. E-mail will enable users to easily share content stored on their computers, whether generated by a mobile device or by any other video capture device," added Prashant.
The underlying technology that makes this possible is the RSS Syndication Engine, Umundo's patent pending technology. This technology enables tagging, filtering, media format conversion and bittorrent P2P distribution among several other features.
In future releases of Umundo there will be new services which include international access, creation of groups and communities, as well as distribution of premium content.
