Laureate's Swiss Hospitality Management Schools Receive CIHE Accreditation from The New England Association of Schools and Colleges
Business Wire, June 7, 2006
BALTIMORE -- Laureate Education, Inc. (NASDAQ:LAUR), the world's leading international provider of higher education, announced that its Glion Institute of Higher Education and Les Roches Swiss Hotel Association School of Hotel Management have recently received accreditation from The New England Association of Schools and Colleges Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (NEASC-CIHE).
NEASC previously accredited Glion and Les Roches under its Commission on Technical and Career Institutions (CTCI) which accredits vocational and technical institutes. Glion and Les Roches are now accredited through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE), the commission within NEASC that accredits higher education degree-granting institutions including colleges and universities. CIHE accreditation symbolizes an educational institution's commitment to educational excellence and adherence to rigorous standards. Only a small number of foreign higher education institutions have such accreditation from NEASC.
Douglas Becker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Laureate Education stated, "CIHE accreditation represents one of the highest standards for the assessment of universities - we are proud that Glion and Les Roches are among the world's most recognized hospitality management schools. Their relentless pursuit of excellence, high academic standards and their approach of incorporating best practices is key to earning this new accreditation." In addition to accreditation by NEASC, Les Roches is endorsed by Hotellerie Suisse (Swiss Hotel Association), Switzerland's only national association for the hospitality industry.
Glion and Les Roches are members of Laureate International Universities - the world's leading network of international institutions of higher education. "Glion and Les Roches bring world-renowned curriculum and great prestige to our international network. In fact, institutions throughout the Laureate International Universities network enjoy strong brand recognition and strive to share curriculum, programs, and best practices with other Laureate institutions," added Mr. Becker.
Today, Laureate International Universities consists of 24 institutions of higher education in 15 countries, offering academic programs to nearly 226,000 students through 53 campuses and online.
