Business Wire, June 9, 2006
PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- ProCom, a CommonHealth medical-education unit, announced its latest continuing medical education (CME) program for the medical community made specifically to air on the Discovery Health Channel. The program, titled "Type 2 Diabetes: A Case for Cardiovascular Intervention," airs on the Discovery Health Channel every Sunday through June 18 at 9 a.m. ET/PT.
CommonHealth (www.commonhealth.com) is the world's leading healthcare-communications network and a WPP Group (NASDAQ/ADR: WPPGY; www.wpp.com) company.
"Type 2 Diabetes: A Case for Cardiovascular Intervention" covers topics such as diabetes monitoring, modification in lifestyle and pharmacotherapy to help the healthcare community improve type 2 diabetes control and reduce the risks associated with the disease.
The program is jointly sponsored by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and the Discovery Health Channel, and is developed in partnership with ProCom. The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health provided guidance and oversight to ProCom for the development of the content, selection of the speakers, and the management and quality control of the project. This educational activity was approved by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health for American Medical Association (AMA) Physician's Recognition Award (PRA) category 1 credit. The educational grant for this project was provided by GlaxoSmithKline.
"ProCom takes great pride in creating compelling, relevant and accessible medical education. We have a heritage of excellence and are always looking for innovative partnerships that value the importance of CME programs. Working with the Discovery Health Channel and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health under an educational grant from GlaxoSmithKline proved to be a success, and ProCom looks forward to developing additional innovative delivery platforms for medical education," stated Christopher Tama, president of ProCom.
"Discovery Health Channel continues its commitment to our CME programs by building on our long-standing partnerships with some of the country's leading physicians, medical institutions and medical education companies, such as ProCom," said Dr. John J. Whyte, vice president for continuing medical education at Discovery Health Channel. "Discovery Health CME brings you credible information that has been thoroughly reviewed to ensure scientific accuracy and evidence-based recommendations."
This is the fifth program ProCom has done in conjunction with the Discovery Health Channel. Previous CME programs included the topics of dyslipidemia, obesity and bariatric surgery.
