Business Wire, March 14, 2006
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Compendia Bioscience, Inc., a newly formed bioinformatics company, has received exclusive rights from the University of Michigan for the development and support of Oncomine(TM), an industry leading cancer profiling database.
"Compendia Bioscience is delighted to develop and commercialize Oncomine for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Building on a base of 7,000 existing users we anticipate accelerated design and functionality enhancements tailored to the specific needs of the commercial sector." said Arul M. "We are pleased to have this agreement," said Ken J. Nisbet, Executive Director of the University of Michigan Office of Technology Transfer, "It promotes the effective use of this vital mine of data to help researchers worldwide."
The driving force behind the development of Oncomine(TM) is to collect, standardize, analyze, and deliver published cancer gene expression data to the research community. Oncomine(TM) allows users to investigate the expression of genes across thousands of cancer samples or explore genes, processes, and pathways deregulated in a particular type of cancer. Oncomine pre-computes cancer profiles, clusters, and gene set modules so scientists can focus on discovery--enhancing productivity.
Oncomine(TM) has contributed to numerous important developments in cancer target discovery. The database has been cited in more than a dozen peer reviewed publications and lauded by the research community.
In conjunction with the license to Oncomine(TM), Compendia Bioscience, Inc. has also received rights to HiMap (Human Interactome Map), a bioinformatics tool developed to navigate the human protein-protein interaction network.
