Plaxo Contact Management Now Available for Apple's Mac OS X; Release Represents Major Step Toward Plaxo's Vision of a ''Universal Address Book''
Business Wire, March 14, 2006
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Plaxo(R), Inc., creator of the Universal Address Book that keeps millions of members in touch with their friends, colleagues, and information, today announced the public beta of the company's popular contact management software for Apple's Mac OS X. Plaxo for Mac represents a major step toward the company's vision to offer the first truly universal personal contact management service, accessible on any platform, email client, browser, or mobile device.
Plaxo now supports full integration with the Mac, America Online, Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. In addition, Plaxo members can build their Plaxo address book by importing contacts from their Netscape, Palm, Yahoo! Mail, and Hotmail accounts.
"One of the most common requests that we've received at Plaxo is for a Mac version of our product," said Drew Colace, lead developer on the project. "Given the passion that the Mac community has demonstrated in their desire for an integrated Plaxo solution, we are delighted to be able to provide this service for the Mac platform."
With the new Plaxo for Mac, users of Mac OS X v10.3 "Panther" and Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" can synchronize their Mac address book with their Plaxo address book to maintain up-to-date contact information. Plaxo for Mac allows Mac users to synchronize home and work computers, providing secure access to their information from anywhere, via any web-enabled device.
"Oftentimes, people use a Windows PC at work and a Mac computer at home -- or vice-versa," said Todd Masonis, founder and vice president of products for Plaxo. "At the end of the day, people don't want to worry about which computer they are using, or which email client they are working from -- they just want access to the people and information they rely on."
