TracFone Wireless Extends Offer to June 1 for Free Cell Phone with 300 Minutes to Those Affected by Hurricane Katrina; Opens Second Storefront in New Orleans to Provide Free Phones

Business Wire, March 15, 2006

MIAMI -- TracFone Wireless, Inc., the nation's largest prepaid wireless service provider, has extended the deadline to June 1, 2006, for a free cellular phone with 300 minutes of airtime and one year of service for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. This follows after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it will extend its Hurricane Katrina Universal Service Assistance Program for another three months.

Applicants can call the toll free number 1-800-800-9873 TracFone has established for this program to inquire about eligibility and get more information on the free phone and minutes, or they can visit the TracFone Wireless New Orleans Relief Centers located at 1641 Poland Avenue at the foot of the Claiborne Bridge or the new storefront located at 4838 Magazine Street. Both Relief Centers are open Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

"A significant number of people were impacted by this disaster and many of them were our customers," said FJ Pollak, president and CEO of TracFone Wireless. "We're continuing our efforts and opening a second storefront location in the heart of New Orleans to support those evacuees that are still in need of a wireless phone to ease their communication problems as they continue to rebuild their lives. We thank the FCC for extending this program in order to effectively reach as many people as possible who are still affected each day by this hardship."

To be eligible for the free cell phone, the applicant must have lived in an area affected by Hurricane Katrina, as determined by FEMA, and have been approved by FEMA to receive emergency assistance. Applicants must provide TracFone with a copy of the FEMA grant letter advising them they are eligible to receive support, present a copy of a Federal or state-issued I.D. and complete a written certification form. Information can be faxed to 1-800-927-2757 for review and approval or brought to the New Orleans store. After the information is verified, TracFone will provide it on-site at the New Orleans location for those who bring completed applications to the stores or ship the package to the applicant's current address for those who fax the information. Program details and application forms are also available on the Internet at http://www.tracfone.com/katrina.> The TracFone Katrina Lifeline Package includes 300 minutes of airtime, one year of service, battery and charger. Customers who purchase additional airtime during their service year will receive twice the amount of minutes for each airtime card purchased or half-price minutes. To assist potential recipients, TracFone's toll-free access number provides an easy-to-follow recorded message with options to repeat the informational steps for clarification.

TracFone Wireless, Inc., based in Miami, Florida, is America's largest prepaid wireless service provider and was the first prepaid wireless Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in the U.S. In 1996, the company was the first to introduce a pay-as-you-go wireless service with no contracts, no hidden taxes or fees and no monthly bills.
