Netopia Eases VoIP Deployments with New Remotely Manageable Analog Telephone Adapter ; VoIP Service Providers to Benefit from ATA's Remote Management and Auto-Configuration Capabilities
Business Wire, March 20, 2006
LAS VEGAS -- Netopia, Inc. (OTCBB:NTPA), a market leader in broadband gateways and service-delivery software, today introduced its new Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA), which lets voice-over-IP (VoIP) subscribers use their existing analog telephones and fax machines to access an IP voice service. The Netopia ATA enables VoIP service providers, challenged by installation and VoIP quality issues, to save costs, improve customer satisfaction, and deliver improved quality of service (QoS) through auto-configuration and remote management of the ATA device on the subscriber's home or business network.

The Netopia ATA connects a standard telephone to the Internet via a broadband gateway, enabling users to make phone calls over the Internet when subscribed to a VoIP service. Value-added features like call waiting, caller ID, conference calling, and call forwarding are available to VoIP subscribers using the Netopia ATA, even if their existing devices do not support them.
For service providers, the new ATA makes adding VoIP services a simple "plug-and-call" experience. Netopia's ATA uniquely offers auto-configuration capabilities at the time of installation when connected to a Netopia gateway, without requiring subscriber or provider intervention. Leveraging Netopia's proven remote device management experience, the ATA can be further configured as well as remotely managed for ongoing support and QoS through Netopia's NBBS remote device management platform.
"With our new ATA, we're helping to expand the boundaries of VoIP adoption by dramatically lowering the cost of deployment and service delivery for our carrier and service provider partners," said Ray Smets, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Netopia. "Consumers have been reluctant to get rid of their existing equipment and invest in VoIP-specific devices, and service providers have been hampered by service delivery costs. Our new ATA breaks down these barriers and opens the door to broader VoIP deployments, allowing service providers to offer next-generation telephone service to their customers."
Availability
The Netopia ATA is available immediately to carriers and service providers directly from Netopia. VARs, resellers, and consumers will find the new Netopia ATA widely available through distribution and online resellers at the end of April.
