Broadwing Communications Delivers Secure, Innovative Network Services to Industry Retail Group; Reseller Selects Broadwing Communications Solution for its Security, Reliability and Flexibility

Business Wire, March 21, 2006

LAS VEGAS -- Broadwing Communications, LLC, a consolidated subsidiary of Broadwing Corporation (NASDAQ: BWNG), today announced that Industry Retail Group Inc. (IRG) will be using Broadwing's Converged Network to deliver secure, reliable and flexible voice and data communications services to its customers.

Based in Wilmington, Del., IRG provides retailers and other multi-site organizations with a premier suite of broadband-enabled network services in the United States and internationally. Through managed integration of leading-edge technologies, IRG provides comprehensive network coverage and secure bandwidth to meet each of its clients' unique business requirements.

Though the company works with other network partners, IRG selected Broadwing's Converged Network Layer 3 IP Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) virtual private network (VPN) because it offers a high level of security and reliability. IRG also selected Broadwing because Broadwing delivered an extremely flexible solution that allows IRG to leverage its own skills and dynamic product suite to address its target market.

"Our carrier-grade network is interconnected with many service providers, but more and more we are relying on Broadwing because they have a quality product and are very accommodating to our business needs," said Gabriel Martinez, CTO of IRG. "Our customers rely on the IRG network to be the foundation for revenue-driving ROI applications and to help improve employee efficiency. Broadwing provides the flexibility to allow us to meet these goals."

The Broadwing Converged Network is completely isolated from the public Internet to increase security and provide customers with the ability to plug their applications into a single platform that seamlessly interworks various modes of existing last-mile technology - including Ethernet, frame relay, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), private line or digital subscriber line (DSL). The simplicity and flexibility of the Broadwing Converged Network continues beyond access. Once Broadwing customers plug into the Converged Network, they have the flexibility to choose to support their communications services using either a Layer 2 Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) VPN or a Layer 3 IP MPLS VPN, or both, over the same physical circuit, depending on their individual privacy, application and control requirements.

"IRG's preferred usage of the Broadwing Converged Network is further validation that customers are seeking a 'telecom utility' that simplifies operations while improving performance and security," said Jamey Heinze, senior director of data product management at Broadwing. "We are pleased that we can provide the innovative products and customized solutions that empower resellers such as IRG to deliver top-notch communications services to its customers around the world."
