"In our drive to bring the best engineering talent to Digeo, we were looking for an individual with a broad-based skill set and strong industry background - someone who could manage across all three major engineering disciplines here at Digeo: hardware, software and silicon," said Fidler. "This is a very strategic hire for Digeo. Chuck is a proven industry veteran with experience in both the cable and satellite industries. His vast experience in developing technologies that improve customer satisfaction will help Digeo as we expand into new market areas."
Newby holds multiple patents, most notably as co-inventor of the Emmy(R) Award-winning VideoCipher and DigiCipher conditional access/encryption systems. Prior to joining Digeo, he was a consultant to the cable and satellite industries, including work on several major OCAP-related projects. Newby also spent several years with satellite and cable operators in key engineering roles, including executive director of engineering at AT&T Broadband, where he was responsible for the company's advanced digital set-tops. He was also director of systems engineering at Primestar, where he led a team in introducing new television services that increased revenue and contributed to Primestar winning the J.D. Power award for subscriber satisfaction two years in a row.
"The opportunity to help expand the market for Moxi plus the chance to work with such a strong team of executives was simply too compelling for me to pass up," said Newby. "I'm very excited to help lead the development of new forms of technology that will significantly enhance the customer experience. My hope is that we will be able to broaden the market opportunity so that many other customers can enjoy the Moxi experience."
