Former NYPA Executive Elected to NYISO Board of Directors; Robert A. Hiney to fill the Board seat of retiring Chairman John W. ''Bill'' Boston

RENSSELAER, N.Y. -- The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) today announced the unanimous election of Robert A. Hiney to the Board of Directors. He will fill the Board seat of John W. "Bill" Boston, who will retire next month.

Mr. Hiney is the former Executive Vice President for Power Generation at the New York Power Authority (NYPA).

"Bob Hiney is a well respected electric industry professional with outstanding leadership experience. He will bring immense value to the Board for years to come," said Mr. Boston. "I congratulate Bob on his election, and I commend my Board colleagues for their excellent choice."

Mr. Boston served on the Board for seven years, including the past three as chair. He will formally retire at the Board's annual meeting on April 18, 2006. Karen Antion, who joined the Board in 1998, will replace him as chair.

Mr. Hiney has had a distinguished career in the electric industry, which included 35 years with NYPA. He was hired by NYPA in 1970 as an assistant hydraulic engineer, and throughout his career worked in power system operations, power supply planning, marketing, electric rates, research and development, and energy efficiency. He retired in 2005.

Mr. Hiney has also served as Vice Chairman of the Northeast Power Coordinating Council, as a trustee of the North American Electric Reliability Council, and as Chairman of the NYISO Management Committee. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

A native of Belmont, Mass., Mr. Hiney earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Tufts University and a master's degree in civil engineering from SUNY Buffalo.

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) - www.nyiso.com - is a federally regulated, 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation established in 1999 to facilitate the restructuring of New York's electric industry. The NYISO operates the state's high-voltage electric transmission system and administers the state's wholesale energy markets. The NYISO's market volume was $10.7 billion in 2005.
