Six Time Entrepreneur David Friend of Carbonite to Speak at Babson April 3rd; Mr. Friend's Message: ''Find A Problem, And the Right Solution''

Business Wire, March 27, 2006

BOSTON -- David Friend, a six-time entrepreneur who has created hundreds of millions in market value with his companies over the past two decades, will be the featured speaker at an event sponsored by Babson College's Invenio Group, on April 3rd at 5:30pm in the Olin Auditorium. Students from other schools are welcome to attend but must first contact Dan Marques via email (dmarques@carbonite.com).

Mr. Friend, who has co-founded Sonexis, FaxNet, Pilot Software, Computer Pictures Corporation and ARP Instruments, will talk about his latest venture, Carbonite, a company that backs up PCs over the Internet. He will discuss what he sees as the keys to his many successes. "Learning to approach an idea from the user's perspective makes the difference between success and failure. For example, there were many mp3 players on the market before the iPod, but Apple saw that the user wanted 'portable music,' not a gadget. Similarly, VoIP lingered for years until Skype came along. They understood that VoIP was not about technology, but 'me talking to you' made easy and cheap. With Carbonite, we are making PC back-up cheap and simple. One of my previous companies, FaxNet, made it cheap and simple to send faxes from your PC. With backup, people just want the result - your data is safe from disk crashes, theft, and viruses. The less hassle and cost, the better. So we've figured out how to make it really simple and really cheap. Nobody else has done that."

Mr. Friend will also be offering Babson students the opportunity to get a taste of entrepreneurship through Carbonite's student affiliate program. According to Mr. Friend, "Our affiliates program will allow motivated students to solve a problem that every student worries about -- losing their term papers, music and photo libraries, and projects. We've tried to make this a learning experience for entrepreneurial students as well as a chance to make some money and get in on the ground floor of a business opportunity."

For students interested in the affiliates program please go to www.carbonite.com or email affiliates@carbonite.com.

About Carbonite

Carbonite was founded in 2005 in order to provide Internet-based Backup for Everyone(TM). Although data loss is a very common problem, few people backup their PCs. Burning CDs is tedious and error-prone. Outboard hard drives are expensive and vulnerable to theft, fire, and viruses. Business-oriented online backup services are too complex and expensive for consumers. Carbonite is dedicated to simple, inexpensive, automatic PC backup over the Internet.

At Carbonite, we believe PC users shouldn't have to think about backup. Our mission is to provide an inexpensive, reliable and truly easy-to-use solution for the mainstream PC user; one that is simple, safe and always on(TM).

About The Invenio Group

The Invenio Group is a venture development fund founded in 2004 by undergraduate entrepreneurs at Babson College. Invenio Group's mission is to bring ventures from concept to market faster, with less investment, and with a higher rate of success. Invenio focuses on supporting college entrepreneurs.
