Educators Credit Union Selects Sana Security for Advanced Enterprise-Wide Server and Client Protection; Financial Institution Thwarts Rootkits With Real-Time Active Malware Defense Technology
Business Wire, March 28, 2006
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Sana Security, Inc., a leader in enterprise threat protection software, today announced that Educators Credit Union (ECU), one of the largest and most successful credit unions in southeastern Wisconsin, has selected Primary Response(R) to instantly and constantly protect the sensitive data of its customers, while securing business critical applications from the onslaught of malware, such as Rootkits, keyloggers, spyware, and Trojans. By selecting Primary Response, ECU forgoes the need for constant signature updates and closes the vulnerability gap left open by signatures, therefore enhancing its overall security strategy.
Educators Credit Union originated in Racine, Wisconsin, and has grown to include 18 locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin, including 15 full-service offices. With 77,000 members serviced at its Sturtevant location alone, ECU required a proactive solution that is easy to manage, can scale across the enterprise and provides a reliable line of defense against leading malware threats. As a leading security concern facing financial institutions, protection of sensitive, personal data is at the helm of ECU's security initiatives. Sana Security enables ECU to maintain its priority of always-on protection for connected and occasionally-connected users for its core information assets.
Primary Response utilizes Sana's Active Malware Defense Technology (Active MDT) to detect and respond to malware, spyware, adware and phishing threats. Departing from traditional security models, which examine each behavior individually, Active MDT is based on a multi-behavioral approach that examines the combination of malware behaviors to determine if a program is truly malicious.
"Normal Anti-Virus solutions can only stop a threat once they have identified the signature and pushed it through to their clients, and many times, clients only update their AV once a week. This obviously leaves a window of vulnerability open for exploitations," said Andrew Peters, network engineer, Educators Credit Union. "Rules-based security solutions are simply too flawed to provide cohesive protection. A hybrid model, therefore, provides the most reliable approach and a best of breed solution."
"The threat landscape is changing dramatically, forcing organizations to adjust their security architecture and enhance defense in depth strategies to fit evolving vulnerabilities. The financial industry, particularly credit unions and smaller banks, are especially challenged to provide progressive security solutions that protect the sensitive information of its customers," said Timothy Eades, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Sana Security. "Educators Credit Union, together with Sana's Primary Response, offers its customers enhanced performance and complete protection against the industry's preeminent threats and stealthy threats, such as Rootkits, that cripple business continuity and exploit online identities and information."
The combination of out-of-the-box protection, adaptive profiling technology and behavioral heuristics from Primary Response, enabled by Sana's Active Malware Defense Technology (Active MDT), allows organizations to achieve instant and constant protection for core information assets. In addition to high performance and scalability, Primary Response goes beyond traditional Intrusion Prevention Software (IPS) to include malware and malicious spyware detection and prevention, automatic protection of newly discovered applications, system level security and self-protection against malicious tampering. Primary Response SafeConnect, the newest addition to the Sana Security product family of threat protection software, delivers a high standard of threat prevention for the PC user by detecting and completely removing all traces of malicious software.
"Behavior-based protection models are changing the security market because they allow organizations to defend themselves against unknown and zero-day attacks," said Andrew Jaquith, research director, Yankee Group. "The changing threat landscape is shifting defenses away from signatures and scanning, which can leave gaps in coverage, and towards more proactive measures."
