ViVOtech to Sponsor Payment Enabled NFC-Mobile Phone Giveaway During The NFC Technology Summit at CTIA Wireless 2006; Unique Promotion Equips Select Attendees to Make NFC Payments at Contactless Enabled Retailers
Business Wire, March 30, 2006
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- ViVOtech, the leading supplier of contactless and NFC payment solutions, is sponsoring a giveaway of Near Field Communications (NFC)-enabled cellular handsets at the NFC Technology Summit being held April 4 in Las Vegas in conjunction with the CTIA Wireless 2006 conference.
Select attendees will receive NFC-enabled Nokia 3220 mobile phones that will allow them to experience, first hand, the ease and convenience of using NFC mobile phones for making payments. Each phone, pre-loaded with a $25.00 MasterCard Prepaid account, can be used at a variety of contactless-enabled retail stores in Las Vegas. Users need simply select the prepaid card issued on the phone's display, tap the phone on the contactless reader at the register, and the payment transaction will be completed. In addition, attendees will also be able to find directions to these nearby retailers by tapping their NFC-enabled phone at special interactive posters hung inside the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Each phone is enabled with the ViVOwallet 2.0 payment and Service Discovery application software, which is part of the ViVOnfc Software Suite announced in September 2005. With ViVOwallet 2.0, cell phones can support multiple cards from different payment brands thru an easy to use graphical user interface. The ViVOnfc software suite also includes ViVOplatform, which enables issuers and retailers to send cards over-the-air (OTA), as well as other real time services like e-coupons, tickets, loyalty programs, and prepaid and gift card products.
"Delivering working NFC payment solutions that can be used in a real-world retail environment is a major milestone for the payment industry," said Michael Mullagh, CEO for ViVOtech. "We firmly believe this technology is going to transform the way retailers and consumers interact and communicate with each other."
"With this giveaway, users will be able to see for themselves the power and promise of Near Field Communications in a mobile handset," said Timothy Downs, executive vice president of CMP Media, producers of the conference. "Thanks to ViVOtech's leadership, vision and commitment to Near Field Communications, I'm beginning to see how the wallet as we know it may soon become extinct. All the plastic we currently have in our wallet will soon be embedded into our phones."
