Gemstar-TV Guide Realigns Consumer Electronics Licensing Group, Centralizing Global Sales and Management; Lydie Levy Named COO for Consumer Electronics Group Worldwide

--Thomson Veteran Thomas Carson Joins Company as President, TV Guide On Screen in North America
--Panasonic Veteran Akitaka Nishimura Joins Company as President of Gemstar Multimedia Limited in Japan
--Simon Adams Named Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales for CE Group Worldwide
Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. (Nasdaq: GMST), the leading provider of television information and guidance, announced today that it has realigned its Consumer Electronics (CE) and Licensing Group, centralizing its global sales, management and marketing strategy and making key senior management team hires and promotions.
As part of the announcement, Lydie Levy, who is currently managing director for Gemstar-TV Guide Europe, has been promoted to chief operating officer, worldwide for the Consumer Electronics Licensing Group. In addition, Gemstar-TV Guide has named Thomas Carson, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience at Thomson Corporation and RCA, as president, TV Guide On Screen, the company's CE operation in North America. Akitaka Nishimura has been named president, Gemstar Multimedia Limited, with responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day operations of that business which provides interactive program guides (IPG) and VCR technology to CE and mobile devices throughout the Japanese market. The three executives will report to Mike McKee, chief operating officer, Gemstar-TV Guide and president, Interactive Program Guides. The company has also promoted Simon Adams, previously deputy managing director for the CE business in Europe, to senior vice president, Marketing and Sales of CE Worldwide, who will report to Lydie Levy, as will Erwin Lau, general manager of Gemstar Technology Development Limited in Hong Kong and Jean Francois Grasset, senior vice president, Technical and Operations.

We have added several experienced executives from leading companies like Thomson and Panasonic, giving us added firepower in our efforts. A consumer electronics industry veteran with more than 22 years of experience, Ms. Levy will assume the role of chief operating officer, worldwide for the Consumer Electronics and Licensing Group. In her previous role with the company, Ms. Levy was responsible for the Guide Plus launch in Europe, representing the company's VCR Plus and Guide Plus businesses in Europe and for managing and organizing the company's relocation to Luxembourg from London. Parallel to her role as managing director for Gemstar-TV Guide Europe, Ms. Levy successfully led the VCR Plus negotiations with licenses as vice president, Worldwide Licensing. Earlier in her career, Ms. Levy served key marketing roles at Thomson Electronics and Darty, a major CE retailer in Europe.
Mr. Carson joins Gemstar-TV Guide from Thomson Corporation where he served in a wide-ranging variety of executive positions, most recently as executive vice president of the organization's Program Office. This position included responsibility for directing operational programs to improve efficiency in areas such as manufacturing, supply chain, support functions and product development. Prior to this, Tom played a number of key roles within the Thomson Corporation, each with increased responsibility including -- EVP, Global Sales & Marketing Services; EVP, Patents & Licensing; VP, Global Sales, Marketing & Americas Representative and an operational leadership role as VP, Americas Picture Tube Operations. Tom's industry background; combined with his operational, licensing and marketing experience, will bring added depth to the Americas team.
Mr. Nishimura joins Gemstar-TV Guide from Panasonic where he served as general manager of the company's Digital AV Networking Promotion Group. In his various roles with Panasonic, Mr. Nishimura was responsible for many international and domestic relationships, as well as technological product offerings in the CE, Mobile and Internet areas. He was a leader in the development and rollout of IPGs in Japan. As president, Gemstar Multimedia Limited, Mr. Nishimura will be charged with managing the whole of Gemstar's Japanese business, a market where more personal technology devices depend on Gemstar-TV Guide's IPG and VCR technology than anywhere else in the world.
Mr. Nishimura will be succeeding Yuichi Okumura, who is retiring as president of Gemstar Multimedia Limited. "During his time at Gemstar, Okumura-san has done superb work, overseeing the creation of our IPG business in Japan," said Mr. McKee. "We sincerely thank Okumura-san for his many contributions and wish him all the best in his retirement." To ensure a smooth changeover, Mr. Okumura and Mr. Nishimura will work together during a brief transitional period.
