Aurora Health Care Selects Lancope's StealthWatch for Internal Network Security; Scalable Network Behavior Analysis and Response Ensures HIPAA Compliance
Business Wire, March 7, 2006
ATLANTA -- Lancope, Inc., the pioneer and market leader in network behavior analysis (NBA) and response solutions with the most enterprise customers, today announced Aurora Health Care, a Wisconsin integrated health care provider, has successfully deployed the StealthWatch System to ensure internal network security across its widely distributed network. As the second-largest private employer in Wisconsin, Aurora Health Care has 25,000 employees, 13 hospitals, over 90 clinics and more than 120 pharmacies across eastern Wisconsin.
"Initially, we explored intrusion detection and prevention systems but quickly realized that this approach required us to deploy individual sensors throughout our internal network, which is administratively problematic, financially burdensome and simply not feasible," said Dan Lukas, lead security architect for Aurora Health Care. "With its behavior-based approach, StealthWatch can cost-effectively scale by leveraging our current network infrastructure and analyzing NetFlow from our Cisco(R) routers and Enterasys(R) switches. StealthWatch impressed us with its ability to provide visibility of the internal network from the core to the edges, enabling us to quickly remediate any issues."
Lukas added, "During evaluation, StealthWatch identified several infected hosts and third-party medical equipment. Its Touched Hosts and Worm Tracker features were extremely valuable in pinpointing root causes and tracing back to the origins of infection." Prior to deploying StealthWatch, Lukas' team would spend two tedious days identifying, isolating and remediating each security incident. Now, StealthWatch "streamlines the remediation process and reduces incident investigation by more than half."
The award-winning StealthWatch System enables Lukas to "easily drill down into a clinic's network activity, address bandwidth issues, identify and remediate misconfigured devices, delve into switch levels to pinpoint and mitigate threats. With its ability to locate distributed sniffers, StealthWatch eliminates the need to purchase troubleshooting hardware for significant cost-savings."
In addition to protecting against zero-day attacks, viruses and Trojans, StealthWatch also supports HIPAA compliance by monitoring close to 1,000 applications on Aurora's network, nearly half of which carry protected health information (PHI). StealthWatch not only helps audit and verify the performance of the security infrastructure according to Aurora's security policy, but also tracks these results over time. "As HIPAA legislation continues to evolve," Lukas added, "we anticipate StealthWatch playing a larger role in ensuring compliance."
"Increasingly, leaders in the health care industry like Aurora, are embracing StealthWatch for it ability to help customers resolve security incidents, monitor network activity and provide clear audit trails that meet HIPAA Security Rule requirements," said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. "StealthWatch's agentless, signature-free, behavior-based approach is easy to deploy and maintain, scalable and cost-effective, all while providing rapid time to benefit."
Aurora Health Care is the latest health care organization to join Lancope's rapidly expanding customer base, which also includes Children's Hospital and Health System, Methodist Medical and Stanford University Medical Center.
