Socket Communications Taps 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Module Market; Innovative Hardware Enables Device Manufacturers and Software Developers to Embed Enterprise Class Wireless LAN Connection in Mobile Devices and Applications

NEWARK, Calif. -- Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity products, today announced it is broadening its product offerings in the mobile device marketplace with the development of an 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Module.
"There is a huge demand in the market to support organizations with smaller scale deployment volume and different operating systems," said Shail Talati, product manager for Socket's WLAN division. "The 802.11b/g Module will enable device manufacturers to focus on their core competencies while leveraging Socket's expertise in Wireless LAN hardware, low-level device drivers, and application software."
Based on customer and market demand, Socket is developing the WLAN Module to allow mobile device manufacturers and software developers to easily integrate a superior Wi-Fi connection into their devices and applications. Designed to work with Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE, Windows Mobile 5.0, Linux and RTOS operating systems, the new WLAN Module will enable faster data throughput, providing a seamless roaming experience when moving from one access point to another. The related software and driver developer kits will support third party application developers to create and integrate Wi-Fi applications.

Socket's Wireless WLAN Module will be compatible with Windows Mobile 2003/SE/5.0 and WinCE 4.2/5.0, in addition to RTOS, such as ThreadX, VxWorks, ulTRON, Mobilinux and multiple Linux operating systems.
