Business Wire, March 9, 2006

WILMINGTON, Mass. -- DUSA Pharmaceuticals, Inc.(R) (NASDAQ NMS:DUSA) reported today that DUSA's Levulan(R) (aminolevulinic acid HCl, ALA) photodynamic therapy (PDT) was featured as one of 9 key topics highlighted by the AAD for the media during the recent American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) 2006 Annual Meeting held March 3-8 in San Francisco, CA. This meeting is widely considered to be the largest and most important dermatology conference of the year, with over 9000 dermatologists attending from the United States and around the world.

Dr. Arielle Kauvar, MD, clinical associate professor of dermatology at New York University School of Medicine, was selected by the AAD to present to the media on March 6th based on her talk 'Photodynamic Therapy: Medical, Surgical and Cosmetic Indications', presented earlier that day during a course on lasers. The AAD also issued a press release titled 'Photodynamic Therapy is Lighting the Way for Medical and Cosmetic Treatments'.

Overall during the AAD meeting, there were approximately 35 presentations focused primarily on PDT, with audiences totaling over 3000 dermatologists. This included the first ever 3 hour course on PDT at the AAD, featuring 15 speakers covering the full range of PDT research and usage in dermatology. This ticketed course sold out well in advance of the meeting, with over 250 physicians present. There were also several posters on ALA PDT, including DUSA's Phase II acne and photodamage results posters.

DUSA senior management also met with Stiefel Laboratories, Inc. Latin American (LA) group as part of the planning for the launch of Levulan PDT in LA anticipated by early '07, as well as numerous other business development meetings.

Dr. Geoffrey Shulman, DUSA's Chairman and CEO, stated "We are very pleased with the outcome of the 2006 AAD meeting, from both educational and business viewpoints. We were particularly delighted that the AAD chose PDT as one of the topics being featured to the media by the academy, as well as the inclusion of the first-ever 'course' solely focused on PDT. We were also pleased to see the ever-increasing body of scientific data from DUSA-supported and independent studies reporting encouraging results in the use of Levulan PDT in AK, acne, photo-damage, and chemoprevention."
