eTelemetry Launches First Network Appliance That Identifies Bandwidth Usage By Person; Metron Identifies Individual Bandwidth Usage Even with Shared Computers and Non-Static IP Addresses
Business Wire, May 1, 2006
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- eTelemetry, Inc., today announced the release of Metron, a network appliance that enables organizations to dynamically identify the bandwidth usage of a person, department, office or campus regardless of changing IP address or multiple PCs used by that person over time. By identifying the top bandwidth users by name, Metron provides IT managers with base-line people information to better manage bandwidth consumption.
While there are many tools on the market that identify bandwidth usage by IP address, Metron is the only solution that follows each person's bandwidth usage in real-time and tracks each person's time spent web surfing or chatting. This information is invaluable to business operations managers.
Metron also enables IT managers to charge bandwidth costs back to the organizational departments who are using it. Additionally, this plug-and-play network appliance provides these capabilities in real-time without complex server software or PC-based software agents to install and maintain.
Metron is powered by Locate and includes all of its features. Locate provides network managers with "the people layer" by dynamically correlating in real-time a network user's name, contact information, IP address, computer's unique hardware (MAC address) and switch port. Personal identifying information is also gathered on people who are not registered users of the network.
"Web surfing, IP phones, wireless handhelds, streaming video, remotely hosted applications, and other creative uses of the network are resulting in bandwidth challenges for many organizations. Until Metron, the tools to monitor bandwidth were IP based. Metron identifies the previously anonymous bandwidth hog and contiguous web surfer," said Alan Schunemann, CTO of eTelemetry. "This is our first step toward business activity monitoring."
Metron will be available August 15, 2006.
