Namco Networks and Sprint Announce Launch of Super PAC-MAN to Sprint Wireless Subscribers; Sweepstakes to Give Away Customized Super PAC-MAN Car to Promote First Time Mobile Launch of PAC-MAN Sequel
Business Wire, May 10, 2006
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Celebrating today's first-time launch on wireless phones of Super PAC-MAN(TM), the super sequel to PAC-MAN(R), Namco Networks, a leading publisher and developer of wireless games and content, and Sprint (NYSE: S), the industry leader in innovative wireless entertainment services, announced plans to give away a 2006 Volkswagen Beetle customized with a Super PAC-MAN theme.
First launched in arcades in 1982, Super PAC-MAN features the same dot-chompin' action from the original PAC-MAN. This time, however, the goodies PAC-MAN has to gobble are behind locked doors and there are more obstacles to clearing the maze. To get around these obstacles, the wireless game features a number of super power-ups that make our favorite dot-chomper into a super-fast, super-sized PAC-MAN.
Two game modes, original arcade mode and enhanced mode, create fast-paced game play that fans won't want to miss. In the original arcade mode, PAC-MAN must gobble up keys that provide access to goodies locked behind secret doors. In addition, chomping super Power Pellets makes PAC-MAN bigger stronger, and faster, giving him a few seconds of imperviousness from those relentless ghosts.
Building on the action in the original mode, the enhanced mode features four new mazes and four new super powers to help PAC-MAN overcome his ghostly foes:
--ICE freezes the ghosts;
--MIRROR creates a distracting phony PAC-MAN double;
--TELEPORT enables PAC-MAN to escape doom by transporting him to a new location; and
--STUN knocks the Ghosts senseless and lets PAC-MAN gobble them up for double points.
"Super PAC-MAN is truly a super sequel, packed with multiple game modes and 256 levels of fun," said Scott Rubin, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Namco Networks. "Whether they are gobbling super Power Pellets or playing the ghost-free bonus stage, fans of PAC-MAN will enjoy the added challenges and thrills of Super PAC-MAN."
In celebration of the worldwide premiere of Super PAC-MAN on wireless phones, Sprint will be hosting the Super PAC-MAN sweepstakes from June 1 thru July 31, and will be the only carrier to offer the title during this time. Fans of Super PAC-MAN or other Namco mobile games, such as PAC-MAN, Ms. PAC-MAN(R), Galaga(R) and Dig Dug(R), can enter for a chance to win this exclusive Super PAC-MAN vehicle by visiting the Super PAC-MAN Sweepstakes category on their capable Sprint and Nextel branded wireless phones and downloading any of Namco's mobile games. Each game downloaded equals an entry into the sweepstakes, and downloading Super PAC-MAN specifically will result in bonus entries.
"Whether playing Super PAC-MAN for the first time or re-living memories of playing the original version in the arcade, Sprint customers will be able to enjoy this great sequel to PAC-MAN on their mobile phones," said Jason Ford, General Manager of Games & Entertainment for Sprint. "We're excited about today's premier of the mobile version of Super PAC-MAN, and for the opportunity to offer the Super PAC-MAN sweepstakes to our customers."
As wireless technology, consumer electronics and entertainment converge; Sprint subscribers can use their wireless phone as a source for information, communications, personalization and entertainment. Sprint is the wireless industry's leader in innovative gaming services, offering the best selection of games; the first carrier-based game community; and a status points program.
Attendees at E3, the annual videogame tradeshow held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles May 10 thru 12, can preview Super PAC-MAN on Sprint phones and check out the Super PAC-MAN customized Volkswagen Beetle at the Namco Networks booth (#600, South Hall).
