Kaspersky Lab Debuts Next Generation Security Products for the Home and Small Office; Kaspersky® Anti-Virus 6.0 and Kaspersky® Internet Security 6.0 Brings Enhanced Premium Protection with Advanced Proactive Technologies

Business Wire, May 15, 2006

WOBURN, Mass. -- Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions that protect against viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, phishing, hackers and spam, today debuted Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 and Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 for the consumer and SOHO markets. This next generation of Kaspersky's award-winning antivirus and integrated security products incorporates advanced proactive technologies and extensive new enhancements for greater protection, increased performance, and significantly reduced resource requirements.

"The rapid evolution of Internet crime requires a new class of solutions that can effectively detect and quickly respond to these new, more sophisticated threats," said Steve Orenberg, President, Kaspersky Lab, Inc. "Our latest generation of products combine the world's fastest virus outbreak response time, the industry's top ranked detection rates, and our automated hourly antivirus updating with a long roster of new innovations that are essential for premium security protection."

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 (KAV) sets a new standard of protection against viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, rootkits and phishing. Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 (KIS) protects against all these plus spam, hacker attacks, and network intrusion and fraud.

Both products protect PCs by combining traditional signature-based methods with proactive protection. The proactive element detects threats by applying heuristics for analyzing the behavior of malicious programs, while minimizing false positives.

The products are particularly effective against spyware, such as ad banners, pop-up windows, phishing and auto-dialers, providing the option of rolling back any changes made to the file system and the registry by a malicious process. When the malware is deleted, all references to it are also deleted from the operating system.

All critical areas of the operating system are monitored by this new product version for potential threats, and can detect hidden code, such as rootkits. The software ensures that data transferred to and from the computer is safe by scanning in real-time all incoming and outgoing emails, as well as files and Web pages downloaded from the Internet. Additionally, the scanning speed of the new software, and the time taken to download antivirus updates, is faster than its predecessor.

New to KIS is a personal firewall, which controls data exchanged between the user's computer and the Internet. The firewall also allows mobile users to define different operating modes for different types of networks - Internet, intranet, and trusted networks, for example. The solution also includes a "stealth" mode, making it invisible on the network, and configuration of Internet access for installed programs is now easier.

KIS also includes a new antispam system that features a range of advanced filtering technologies, such as intuitive algorithms that analyze emails. The self-learning Bayes algorithm in KIS adapts itself to the specific mail traffic of each individual user, minimizing the Internet traffic that is needed to update the antispam database. The antispam function also recognizes graphic elements used in spam, and a mail dispatcher helps to decrease traffic by previewing the headers of all incoming emails without downloading messages from the mail server. Kaspersky Lab releases antispam database updates every 20 minutes, and users are still encouraged to update their databases as often as possible.

KAV is also tuned to manage any drain on system resources. When the antivirus program performs operations that require substantial system resources, it monitors newly launched applications. If resource-intensive processes are launched by the user, KAV suspends its operations, freeing up system resources.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 and Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 are available globally as of May 15, 2006. In North America, these products can now be downloaded online and will soon be available in retail at CompUSA, Office Depot, Fry's Electronics and J&R Electronics. Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 is priced at $79.95, and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 is priced at $59.95.
