HTC Communications Chooses Netopia Wi-Fi Hot Spot Solutions for Business Subscribers; Netopia Hot Spots Installed Throughout HTC Service Centers
Business Wire, May 15, 2006
EMERYVILLE, Calif. -- Netopia, Inc. (OTCBB:NTPA), a market leader in broadband gateways and service-delivery software, announced HTC Communications, the largest telephone cooperative in the U.S., has chosen Netopia as the primary supplier of Wi-Fi hot spot solutions for its business subscribers. HTC has deployed Netopia's wireless hot spots in its eight service centers throughout South Carolina to allow patrons to experience the live hot spots and learn more about the offering.
"As technology continues to evolve, it is imperative that we stay on its leading edge by offering our customers the latest in the industry's trends," said Tom Vitt, director of marketing for Horry Telephone Cooperative (HTC). "We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with a great partner like Netopia to enable our customers to easily make wireless access available in their establishments through a simple-to-deploy Netopia Hot Spot."
The HTC store in the Coastal Grand Mall, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has gone one step further and leveraged Netopia's hot spot technology along with its NetRacer high-speed Internet service to deploy a wireless hot spot in the mall's nearby food court. Mall patrons can access the Internet by visiting the mall's HTC store for complimentary access cards to the Netopia Hot Spot, which also drives traffic to the HTC location. Now, in addition to enjoying the shopping and entertainment amenities at the mall, busy business patrons can work online from the food court and shoppers can surf the Internet while they snack.
"Wireless hot spots are gaining acceptance across a number of vertical markets as an easy-to-offer amenity that attracts customers and improves the overall customer experience," said Ray Smets, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Netopia. "Carriers like HTC offering hosted hot spots make it easy for their business customers to subscribe to the latest technology trends in order to generate additional revenue."
Netopia Hot Spots will be available to HTC business clients this month, enabling them to offer Wi-Fi access to their patrons.
