MICROS and VeriFone Form Alliance to Fight Credit Card Fraud in Restaurants; MICROS Will Resell VeriFone Secure Payment Solutions; VeriFone's New Vx 670 Mobile Payment System Fully Integrated with MICROS RES 4.0
Business Wire, May 19, 2006
CHICAGO -- MICROS Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRS), and VeriFone Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: PAY), today announced a strategic alliance to arm the North American restaurant industry with an integrated pay-at-the-table solution that provides a more secure way to collect payments, improves operational efficiencies and supports the consumer shift to PIN debit. MICROS will resell VeriFone's customer-facing electronic payment solutions, including the new Vx 670 mobile payment system fully integrated with MICROS RES 4.0.
The global alliance between the companies provides the restaurant industry with easier access to total solutions from two of the leading suppliers in the industry. MICROS, a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality and retail industries, offers complete information management solutions including software, hardware, enterprise systems integration, consulting and support. VeriFone is one of the largest providers of electronic payment systems worldwide and an industry leader in multi-application payment system deployments.
"Card fraud has migrated to restaurants and this alliance finally provides the industry with an efficient integrated solution utilizing secure payment technology that is already widely adopted in other major retail segments," said VeriFone Chairman and CEO Douglas G. Bergeron. "MICROS and VeriFone share a vision of extending secure payment to the points of service that match consumer needs."
"By seamlessly integrating the VeriFone Vx 670 mobile payment device with RES 4.0, MICROS provides a total solution to the hospitality industry that is more secure, more convenient, and easier to deploy than ever before," said Tom Giannopoulos, MICROS Chairman and CEO. "With credit card skimming and fraud so prevalent today, the added security and convenience for the customer will drive guest satisfaction in any establishment."
MICROS will resell a full range of VeriFone customer-activated payment systems, including the new QX720 outdoor payment system, the Omni 7000 family and the multimedia-enabled MX870, in addition to the Vx 670. VeriFone's new Vx 670 is the industry's smallest all-in-one wireless handheld payment system that can be equipped with Wi-Fi communications for pay at the table and carside service. The QX720 is an outdoor payment solution to further extend POS cashless transactions for convenience-oriented businesses that have drive-thru facilities, such as quick-service restaurants and pharmacies.
(Note to Editors: VeriFone and MICROS will host a joint press conference at the NRA Show 2006 in Chicago, Sunday, May 21, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., in Room N226, North Hall, Level 2, McCormick Place.)
