Storage Pros Name Riverbed the Leading In-Use Vendor According to a Fortune 1000 Storage Study
Business Wire, May 22, 2006
SAN FRANCISCO -- Riverbed Technology, Inc. announced today that 155 Fortune 1000 Storage Pros in TheInfoPro (TIP) Storage Wave 7 Study have named Riverbed(R) the leading in-use vendor for wide area file services (WAFS) technology, taking the number one position from Cisco Systems.
For the Fortune 1000 sample in Wave 7 of TIP's storage study, WAFS and Data Services moved up to the number three position in the TIP Heat Index, a measure of technology implementation immediacy. It has climbed from the number eight position in Wave 6 and the second to last position in Wave 5 from a year ago. According to TIP, the rapid adoption is currently being driven by backup centralization activities in the Fortune 1000 as WAFS finds a home as a strategy for non-centralized storage at remote backup sites.
According to TIP, in Storage Wave 7, the leading in-use vendor used by Fortune 1000 pros for WAFS technology became Riverbed, with its Steelhead(R) product family appliance.
About Steelhead Appliances
Riverbed's award-winning Steelhead appliances accelerate enterprise applications typically by five to 50 times and in some cases up to 100 times between enterprise datacenters and remote offices. The Steelhead appliance's intelligent optimizations give companies that share data and collaborate between distributed offices significant performance improvements for a broad range of applications that are important to their businesses, offering these companies the ability to simplify IT infrastructure and realize significant capital and operational cost savings.
Unlike competing approaches that are built primarily on either a network-compression or storage (caching) philosophy (like many WAFS-only architectures), Steelhead appliances are based on the Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS(TM)), which accelerates all TCP-based applications, including common applications like Windows file sharing, MAPI, Microsoft SQL and DPM, NetApp's SnapMirror, Symantec's NetBackup and FTP, while adding incremental application-specific latency optimizations to minimize the impact of latency on key applications.
Riverbed's intelligent optimizations also enable remote office IT consolidation, WAN bandwidth optimization and acceleration of data replication and backup for disaster recovery.
