Industry Veteran Crawford W. Beveridge Joins eSilicon's Board; Sun Microsystems' Executive to Help Guide Company's Direction, Growth
Business Wire, May 22, 2006
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- eSilicon Corporation, a leading fabless supplier of custom integrated circuits, announced today that it has named Crawford W. Beveridge, to its board of directors. Beveridge has more than 35 years experience in the high-technology industry in both private sector and government roles. Currently an executive at Sun Microsystems, Inc., where he has spent the majority of his career, he also held high-level positions at Scottish Enterprise, Hewlett-Packard, Digital Equipment Corp. and Analog Devices, Inc. in the United States and Europe. In addition to his board post for eSilicon, Beveridge also serves as a non-executive board member for Autodesk, Inc. and Scottish Equity Partners, Ltd.
"We're very pleased to have someone with Crawford's exceptional credentials and long-term industry experience join our board," said eSilicon's Chairman, President and CEO Jack Harding. "I have had the great pleasure of working with him in the past and we look forward to Crawford providing a truly global business perspective and leveraging his expertise to help guide us as we set our strategic direction. His experience in the European high-tech community and with various government entities will be invaluable to us."
Beveridge currently serves as executive vice president and chairman of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA); Asia/Pacific; and the Americas for Sun Microsystems. He represents Sun's interests in key regions outside the United States - including Europe, Brazil, Russia, India and China - interacting with local governments to help influence public policy to ensure a level playing field in technology policy. He works with these governments to adopt open standards, open document formats and open source software, as well as in areas such as intellectual property and data privacy.
"I look forward to leveraging my experience in a variety of capacities to make a valuable contribution to eSilicon. I am impressed with the team and business model eSilicon has in place, and the company is well-positioned for its next level of growth," said Beveridge.
In 1991, Beveridge left Sun for a government post as chief executive of Scottish Enterprise -- the leading economic development organization for Scotland, his native country. With more than 1,700 employees and an annual operating budget of more than $800 million, Beveridge oversaw business development, venture capital, skills development, export, infrastructure and inward investment for the agency.
After nine successful years in this role, Beveridge returned to Sun in April 2000 as executive vice president of People and Places, and chief human resources officer.
Beveridge holds a B.Sc. in social sciences from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and a M.Sc. in industrial administration from the University of Bradford, England. He also holds honorary doctoral degrees from the University of Edinburgh, Napier University in Edinburgh, and Robert Gordons University in Aberdeen. In 1995, Beveridge was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in the Queen's New Years Honours list.
