EMERYVILLE, Calif. & LONDON -- Gracenote and Sony Ericsson:
--Gracenote's Mobile MusicID(TM) Technology Powers Fast, Accurate Recognition of Songs on Next Generation of Sony Ericsson Mobile Phones, Allowing Consumers to Identify Music When They Hear It and Opening Direct Commerce Opportunities to Carriers
Gracenote and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication today announced a global partnership to enable music identification across Sony Ericsson's Walkman(R) phones worldwide. Gracenote's Mobile MusicID service is powering TrackID(TM), a premier feature for Sony Ericsson, on one of the most popular lines of phones tailored for digital music. The service will enable Walkman(R) handsets access to Gracenote's Global Media Database to identify for the first time songs being played on the phones' built-in FM tuner or anywhere within the proximity of the phones, such as in a club or a restaurant.
Sony Ericsson separately announced the newest members of its Walkman(R) phones range. The TrackID(TM) feature will be available on the W850 and the W710 models, which will offer Gracenote's service globally.
"Gracenote is extremely excited to be working with Sony Ericsson and to be an integral part of the groundbreaking Walkman phone range," said Craig Palmer, Gracenote CEO. "Sony revolutionized the world of music with the original Walkman, and now Sony Ericsson is positioned to do the same in the mobile world with their cutting edge handsets optimized for music."
Gracenote's Mobile MusicID service combines the world's most advanced and accurate recognition technology with the world's largest music information database, resulting in the fastest identification and display of song information as well as links to new mobile commerce opportunities. Gratenote's media database includes more than 10 million song fingerprints, optimized for mobile devices and representing the most popular music in the world, from which an optimized set will be utilized for Sony Ericsson's TrackID(TM) feature.
"Sony Ericsson chose Gracenote to power TrackID(TM) for the W850 and W710 Walkman phones because of their proven ability to provide a robust global solution for music identification and their longstanding reputation for accuracy and reliability," said Steve Walker, vice president, product marketing of Sony Ericsson. "With TrackID we've been able to provide users with the simplest and easiest way to discover new music whether it's playing in a cafe, in the car or even on the built in FM tuner."
In addition to song identification, the TrackID(TM) feature seamlessly provides Sony Ericsson's mobile carrier partners with the option to present commerce opportunities as users view song information. These include the ability for consumers to purchase or view ring tones, full tracks, album art and other related merchandise.
