Zix Corporation to Provide e-Prescribing for Statewide Collaborative in Southeast Region; Second New Payor Announcement This Week
Business Wire, May 3, 2006
DALLAS -- Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)) (Nasdaq:ZIXI), the leader in hosted services for email encryption and e-prescribing, today announced that another contract has been signed with a major health insurer. The collaborative program will fund the PocketScript(R) technology for up to 500 primary-care physicians who routinely write a large volume of prescriptions as part of the first phase of the program. The specific payor has asked ZixCorp not to use their name in this press release.
"This insurer joins several Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, including BCBS Massachusetts, which is part of the eRx Collaborative, and Independence Blue Cross, HighMark, BCBS Louisiana, along with national plan Aetna, in selecting PocketScript as a major part of new e-prescribing initiatives," said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer for ZixCorp. "This program is in a new geographic region for ZixCorp and will help broaden awareness and adoption. I'm excited to see an expanded commitment to the benefits that PocketScript can bring -- including increased patient safety, increased accuracy and efficiency, and lower healthcare costs -- to an ever-growing customer base."
The prescribers using ZixCorp's PocketScript e-prescribing service use a wireless handheld PDA to write prescriptions and then send them immediately and electronically to pharmacies improving patient convenience. Prescriptions can also be written and managed through a ZixCorp secure Web site using a common browser. During the prescribing process, in real time, the application provides formulary information, a drug reference guide, drug-to-drug and drug-to-allergy checking, and patient-specific drug-dispensed lists.
