Fuel-Tech N.V. to Host 'Fossil Energy-Produced Air Emission Control Workshop' in the People's Republic of China

Business Wire, May 30, 2006

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Fuel-Tech N.V. (Nasdaq: FTEK), a world leader in advanced engineering solutions for the optimization of combustion systems in utility and industrial applications, announced that it is hosting the "Fossil Energy-Produced Air Emission Control and Reduction Technology Workshop" today in the Guangdong Province of the People's Republic of China (PRC). This conference, the first of its kind for Fuel Tech, is sponsored along with the Guangdong Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, the Shenzhen Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the U.S. Department of Commerce. One hundred and sixty participants, including plant managers, senior utility executives and government officials, are expected to attend.

At this all-day event, Fuel Tech will discuss an analysis of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions standards for China, as well as analyze and recommend various scenarios of NOx emissions control, highlighting the Company's state-of-the art NOxOUT ULTRA(R) and hybrid NOxOUT(R) Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technologies. Presenting from Fuel Tech will be: Michael Maley, Senior Vice President, International Business Development and Project Execution; Dr. M. Linda Lin, Vice President, Asia/Pacific; and Dr. William Sun, Vice President, Air Pollution Control Technologies. The conference will also feature presentations from several keynote speakers, as well as representatives from two coal-fired utility customers that will be installing Fuel Tech's air pollution control equipment.

John F. Norris Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "As evidenced by the stature and diversity of participants at this workshop, there is a growing recognition that further investment will be required to protect the environment and limit harmful air emissions in the PRC. As the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Guangdong Provincial Government agencies take corrective action to improve the country's environmental status, this is a timely gathering that will afford Fuel Tech valuable exposure in the world's largest coal consuming country. With an estimated 350,000 megawatts (MW) of installed fossil generation, and another 225,000 MW of new coal plants being built in the near future, the PRC represents a vast opportunity for Fuel Tech."

Mr. Norris concluded, "As a host of this workshop, Fuel Tech is pleased to offer a variety of technologies that can assist coal-fired utilities in attaining their desired levels of NOx reduction in a safe, timely and economic manner. Certain of these technologies are already being incorporated into six new coal-fired boilers under construction at two plants in Jiangsu Province."
