Warren Buffett Charity Auction on eBay®; Legendary Investor and Dairy Queen® Make Beautiful ``Ukulele'' Music for Children's Miracle Network
Business Wire, May 4, 2006
OMAHA, Neb. -- Does everything Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) touches turn to gold?
We're about to find out. Bidding begins at $1,000 on eBay(R) at http://www.ebay.com/dairyqueen for an exquisite custom-designed Dairy Queen(R) ukulele autographed by legendary investor and part-time ukulele player, Warren Buffett. The bidding opens at 9 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Pacific on Monday, May 15, and will run for 10 days. The eBay online auction is being managed by Auction Cause, a premier auction management agency.
On Saturday, May 6, the unique ukulele will be on display in the Dairy Queen booth at the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting in Omaha, Neb.
San Francisco-based Tesser, the Dairy Queen system's branding and design partner, created the ukulele to resemble a signature Dairy Queen cone complete with a curl on top. One of only two in the series, the second DQ(R) ukulele will become part of Buffett's private collection.
Proceeds from the sale of the ukulele will benefit the Omaha Children's Hospital, a member of the Children's Miracle Network. Children's Miracle Network is the national cause partner of Dairy Queen, a Berkshire Hathaway company, which has raised more than $59 million for the organization since 1984.
The auction marks the beginning of the Dairy Queen system's summer-long awareness campaign for Children's Miracle Network culminating in the treat leader's first-ever North American Miracle Treat Day.
"Throughout North America, during Miracle Treat Day on Thursday, August 10, we will donate proceeds from every Blizzard(R) sold to Children's Miracle Network," said Michael Keller, chief brand officer for International Dairy Queen and a member of the Children's Miracle Network national board of governors. "The auction is something different for us to call attention to and raise funds for Children's Miracle Network."
