New Unisys Business Continuance Solutions and Server Platform Provide Singular Foundation for Real-Time Recovery Anywhere, Any Time
Business Wire, May 9, 2006
BLUE BELL, Pa. -- Superior Capabilities of SafeGuard Family for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuance Plus Enhanced Performance and Economy of ES7000 Servers Yield Peak Support for Real-Time Business
Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced a combination of solutions that dramatically advance clients' business continuance and real-time computing capabilities. The SafeGuard Family of solutions for business continuance helps clients protect critical business information with failover capability anywhere in the world within 30 minutes, regardless of storage subsystems. The new ES7000/one enterprise server, representing an industry first in its unique CPU architecture, provides enhanced capacity on demand that optimizes the economics of business continuance and IT management.
These new products advance the Unisys strategy of providing clients a singular solution to build a flexible real-time infrastructure that directly and dynamically enables strategic business processes and helps them realize key benefits of secure business operations - breakthroughs in customer satisfaction and more efficient IT management, with higher availability and lower costs of ownership.
"Business and IT executives tell us that customer satisfaction is a key driver in their increasing implementation of real time infrastructure," said Mark Feverston, vice president, Enterprise Solutions Business, Unisys. "Exceptional business continuance and disaster recovery are essential to uninterrupted delivery of IT services enabling that critical requirement. 'Uninterrupted' means both serving customers transparently today and integrating new technology with legacy systems seamlessly tomorrow. Unisys new SafeGuard Family and ES7000/one deliver that real-time availability while allowing clients to avoid the 'rip-and-replace' approach to IT evolution espoused by many IT vendors."
SafeGuard Family a "First" in Business Continuance
Designed to protect critical IT and information assets from major site disruption, the SafeGuard Family is the first in the market to support heterogeneous servers and storage environments throughout the entire data center. The family comprises:
--SafeGuard Duplex, a new, advanced capability providing data protection by replicating critical data to a backup site. SafeGuard Duplex protects data associated with a wide range of operating systems, including HP-UX, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows, as well as storage systems from HP, IBM, EMC and Hitachi.
--SafeGuard 30m, delivering automated, cost-effective application failover and recover to operations (RTO) in 30 minutes or less through its capability to access data from a backup site anywhere in the world. In Microsoft SQL Server environments SafeGuard 30m can provide complete, cost-effective data protection using both data replication and server clustering.
ES7000/one: a "First" for Intel-based Servers Drives Performance, Simplifies Management
The ES7000/one enterprise server, the latest model in the award-winning Unisys ES7000 family, is designed to drive real-time enterprise computing based on open standards. It accommodates both Microsoft Windows and Linux environments, including Red Hat and Novell SuSE distributions. Simplifying IT server management, provisioning and re-provisioning, the ES7000/one can scale as workloads grow, accommodating between four and 32 processors supporting both 32- and 64-bit processing.
The ES7000/one is the first server on the market to enable users to configure a single platform for both Intel Xeon MP and Itanium 2 processors. Unisys clients can scale back on training, maintenance and management requirements, reducing their cost of ownership.
"When evaluating our options we chose the ES7000/one because it was flexible and provided a path for continued growth of technology rather than buying equipment that would be obsolete in a matter of months," said David Reneer, director, Technical Operations, DeniServ, which provides information and claims processing solutions for Delta Dental.
The ES7000/one has achieved the highest performance of any Intel-based 16-processor server on the TPC-C benchmark, delivering performance more than 50 percent greater and cost per tpmC nearly 48 percent lower than those attained by the comparable IBM system.(1)
Making Business Continuance More Affordable: Enhanced ES7000 Real-Time Capacity
With the ES7000/one, Unisys has rolled out an enhancement to its one-of-a kind capacity-on-demand feature for servers based on Intel technology. Unisys enterprise customers can now purchase servers populated with active and inactive processors. They can use the active processors at any time, and activate the inactive processors through an electronic key they obtain from Unisys. This singular capability can optimize customers' cost of IT acquisition and ownership. They purchase only the initially active processors and deploy the inactive ones as needed on a pay-per-use basis as workloads dictate.
"With the SafeGuard Family and ES7000/one, Unisys continues to deliver innovative solutions for exceptional business continuance that incorporate the best mix of Microsoft and open source technologies to offer our customers the greatest flexibility for real-time infrastructure available today," said Feverston.
