Business Wire, Nov 1, 2006
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Lowrie, Lando and Anastasi, LLP (LL&A) today announced that John L. Welch has become Of Counsel to the firm.
Mr. Welch is a nationally recognized expert in trademark, unfair competition, and copyright law, with more than thirty years of experience in litigation, licensing, and counseling in the field of intellectual property. He has handled hundreds of opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is responsible for the international trademark portfolios of a number of major companies in such diverse fields as restaurant services, footwear, food processing machinery, and computer software. He has represented clients in numerous patent, trademark, copyright, unfair competition, and domain name lawsuits across the country.
"I am looking forward to joining LL&A's team, which includes many long-time friends and former colleagues," said Mr. Welch. "I have observed the firm's tremendous growth over the past few years, and it is clear to me that LL&A has become the fastest growing intellectual property firm in New England because of both the quality of its work and the firm's collegial environment," he added.
Mr. Welch is a frequent author and speaker in a variety of intellectual property topics, and is the lead editor and contributor to Allen's Trademark Digest, a leading monthly digest of trademark decisions of the USPTO. Additionally, his TTABlog, which focuses on the procedure and jurisprudence of the USPTO's Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, has been selected by Managing Intellectual Property as one of the top ten intellectual property blogs.
"We are delighted to add John's broad expertise to our firm," said Ann Lamport Hammitte, an LL&A partner. "His skills and experience are a terrific complement to all of our practice areas."
Immediately prior to joining LL&A, Mr. Welch was Counsel to Foley Hoag LLP in Boston. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, U.S. Federal District and Appeals Courts throughout the country, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
