Quovadx and RxHub to Provide Streamlined Access to Patient Medication History

Business Wire, Nov 2, 2006

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. -- Quovadx, Inc. (Nasdaq: QVDX), a global software and vertical solution company, today announced it has expanded its existing relationship with RxHub LLC (RxHub), the leader in the exchange of real-time patient prescribing information. Under this new agreement, Quovadx will facilitate the electronic delivery of RxHub medication history data to healthcare providers which will improve the quality of patient care and safety.

This new expanded relationship will allow healthcare providers to access the RxHub MEDS (Medication and Eligibility Delivery Solution), which provides patient medication history at the point of care. Individual hospitals can customize the delivery of services through the Cloverleaf Integration Services interface. With the increased accessibility of RxHub MEDS solution, hospitals will have a new tool to improve patient care by reducing medication errors and increasing efficiency and accuracy amongst clinicians. Quovadx has successfully completed testing and has been certified by RxHub to process medication history transactions in ORU and RDS formats.

"One of the major causes of medication errors in the hospital setting is a lack of complete patient information at the point of care," said JP Little, chief operating officer, RxHub. "We look forward to extending our already successful relationship with Quovadx to effectively deliver prescription claims information to clinicians in an effort to further improve patient outcomes."

The RxHub MEDS solutions allows physicians who are treating patients in an inpatient setting to quickly access outpatient prescription drug history. The ability to access a more comprehensive and accurate patient medication history through their existing Cloverleaf interface enables improved patient safety and increased efficiencies at the point of care by ensuring that all clinicians have access to the same information in an easy to read and understand format. Further, the automation and integration of this data collection will support hospital compliance with Medication Reconciliation requirements of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAHO).

Currently, inpatient medication history is collected "verbally" in a time-consuming process from the patient and his or her family. Often, this history is incomplete, allowing for potentially fatal drug interaction errors. Further, patient medication is frequently included only in paper charts, where there can be discrepancies between charts and misinterpretation of handwritten notes. Through its relationship with RxHub, Quovadx will automate the collection of Medication History and integrate that data into Hospital Information Systems.

"Through the Cloverleaf[R] engine, Quovadx can quickly and cost-effectively implement the connection to RxHub and dramatically decrease the effort, time and cost of receiving MEDS transactions," said Jerry Rankin, director of Health Information Network Initiatives, Quovadx. "This process will allow hospitals to more rapidly realize the benefits of obtaining medication history in an effort to increase efficiency and decrease medication errors."
