TimeSys Expands Educational Webinar Series for Embedded Linux Development

Business Wire, Nov 30, 2006

PITTSBURGH -- TimeSys Corporation (http://www.timesys.com), the leading developer service provider for the embedded Linux market, is adding more sessions to its popular series of educational webinars for embedded Linux developers. Beginning in early December, the new topics are designed to help developers that are new to embedded Linux, showing the steps to boot Linux on a target embedded board, get a sample application to run on the board, and help attendees understand the options available for filesystems to use with their project.

These new sessions complement the dozens of webinars TimeSys has held over the past year. Past topics have covered a wide variety of embedded Linux topics for all skill levels. Archives of past webinars are available at http://www.timesys.com/webinars/index.htm.>

    Linux Boot-Up
Learn what happens when a Linux kernel boots from a bootloader to
init to your user-space program running. Understand how to
minimize boot time and get the right programs running for your
application. We will also discuss what Linux does after the kernel
starts and how you can get your application running easily.

Hello World, from an Embedded Perspective
This session will walk the user through the process of creating a
"Hello World" application for an embedded target. It will include
cross-compiling the kernel and application, and creating an image
with a root file system that includes the "Hello World" program.
Those new to embedded development using Linux will gain an
understanding of how the different parts of Linux work together to
    solve this classic problem.

    Survey of Linux Filesystems
Unlike desktop Linux systems, which typically use ext3, an
embedded engineer has many different filesystems to use, each with
their own benefits and drawbacks. This webinar will discuss
in-depth the different filesystems frequently (and not so
frequently) used on embedded targets. We will show where to get
the tools for each of the filesystems and how to use them to
create a root filesystem (RFS) for your target.
