Transitive Offers Virtual Appliance for Evaluation of Solaris/SPARC Applications Running Inside a VMware Virtual Machine Environment

Business Wire, Nov 7, 2006

Data Center Managers Attending VMworld 2006 Can Evaluate the Innovative QuickTransit Solution Pre-Installed in a Ready-to-Run VMware Virtual Machine

LOS ANGELES -- Transitive[R] Corporation, the leading provider of software that enables transportability of applications across multiple processor and operating system (OS) pairs, today announced the availability of a virtual appliance that provides an evaluation release of QuickTransit[R] for Solaris[TM]/SPARC[R]-to-Linux[R]/x86-64 pre-installed within a VMware Virtual Machine (VM).

The virtual appliance provides data center managers with a quick and easy evaluation of Transitive's innovative hardware virtualization solution by allowing them to execute their Solaris/SPARC applications inside a VM on a 64-bit x86-based system, running either the free VMware Server or the high-end VMware Infrastructure 3 platform. No software installation or configuration is required. The major advantage of adding QuickTransit to a virtualization strategy is that it extends virtualization benefits to a broader category of applications by including those legacy applications running on proprietary UNIX platforms.

"Due to the increasing interest in QuickTransit solutions among enterprise data center managers, Transitive has invested in additional, innovative ways to get evaluation versions of the software in front of a larger audience," said Ian Robinson, vice president of marketing for Transitive. "This virtual appliance is an ideal format for enterprise customers who are already moving forward with a virtualization strategy to consolidate data center infrastructure and re-host legacy applications."

Synergy Benefits VMware Customers

Transitive is a Select level member of VMware's Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program. By adding QuickTransit to their virtualization deployments, VMware customers can extend the useful life of key applications without the high costs or delays of traditional re-writing or porting projects. Using QuickTransit, VMware customers can also rapidly retire obsolete IT infrastructure and replace it with more cost-effective modern platforms.

Availability

The Transitive virtual appliance with QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Linux/x86-64 pre-installed within a VMware VM is a limited offering available at no cost to qualified enterprise data center managers attending VMworld 2006 in Los Angeles, November 7 to 9, 2006. Transitive is in VMworld booth #318.
