Solar Power Plant to Begin Operating in October to Provide Predictably Priced Long-Term Rates

SunEdison, North America's largest solar energy service provider, announced today it will begin delivering solar energy service to California State University, Chico this month. The power plant, installed with 1,848 solar panels on the roofs of Yolo Hall and Acker Gym at CSU, Chico in September and early October, will become operational in October delivering power cheaper than the university's current retail rates. With no fuel costs, the system will deliver predictable pricing for the university for next 20 years. Excess power generated by the system is fed directly to the PG&E grid.

The solar power system provides enough power for approximately 70 homes, and reduces carbon dioxide emissions produced by the equivalent of approximately 430 commuter vehicles. SunEdison receives federal "Green Tag" tax credits for installing solar power equipment that generates renewal energy.

Mike Bates, facility/energy manager, at CSU, Chico, said, "SunEdison made the implementation of solar simple, and put us a step closer to CSU, Chico's far-reaching efforts to be a leader in sustainability efforts." Bates said. "Plus, given the volatility of the energy markets, the long term fixed energy prices were very attractive."

Added Jigar Shah, CEO of SunEdison, "CSU, Chico understands that renewable energy goes beyond green marketing and is simply good business. They see that the university is at an inflection point where locking in predictable pricing over the next two decades will have a positive impact on the budget process for the entire university," he said.
