Wave 4 - Expansion Band Election Updates
Business Wire, Oct 25, 2006
WASHINGTON -- The 800 MHz Transition Administrator, LLC (TA), announces modifications to the Expansion Band Election deadlines for certain Wave 4 licensees with frequencies located in or near the international border areas.
Within Wave 4 there are a number of licensees who have 800 MHz licenses with frequencies located in or near the international border areas defined by the FCC, which are subject to special frequency plans negotiated by the United States with the Governments of Mexico and Canada. Locations within 110 km (68.4 miles) of the U.S./Mexico border or within 140 km (87 miles) of the U.S./Canada border are within the FCC-defined border area. Expansion Band frequencies have not yet been established for the FCC-defined border areas. Licensees with locations in the FCC-defined border areas have not received a Frequency Proposal Report from the TA. In addition, licensees who have 800 MHz licenses with locations within 113 km (70 miles) of the border areas may be affected by the border areas and may not have received a Frequency Proposal Report. Therefore, Wave 4 licensees who have not yet received a Frequency Proposal Report from the TA may defer submitting an election to remain in the expansion band until further notice. The TA will announce revised Expansion Band Election deadlines.
For Wave 4 licensees with locations that are not located in or near the border areas, the Expansion Band Election deadline was October 3, 2006. Given the uncertainty around Wave 4 border area band plans, the TA is continuing to accept elections filed after October 3rd. For purposes of frequency planning, the TA encourages Wave 4 Public Safety licensees who have already received a Frequency Proposal Report from the TA and who would like to elect to remain in the Expansion Band to submit their elections by November 30, 2006, by completing and returning an Expansion Band Election Form, available on the TA's website at http://www.800TA.org/content/PDF/forms/EBE_Form.pdf.
