Publishers Weekly Offers Free Subscriptions to Qualified Booksellers
Business Wire, Oct 3, 2006
NEW YORK -- Publishers Weekly today announced that it is offering free subscriptions to qualified booksellers throughout North America. This program extends the publication's reach into the book retailing marketplace, including independent booksellers, mass merchants, chain stores and specialty stores that manage, select or purchase books.
For the first time in the history of Publishers Weekly, the magazine will be offered free, as a controlled circulation publication, to all qualified book retailers. To qualify for a free subscription, booksellers who currently subscribe to Publishers Weekly will be asked to complete a qualification form upon the expiration of their current subscription in lieu of a renewal payment. Any qualified bookseller who is not currently a subscriber may request a qualification form, which will be available in the coming weeks.
David Nudo, newly appointed publisher of Publishers Weekly, states, "As I rejoin Publishers Weekly, my top priority is to make it a ubiquitous publication in the bookselling marketplace. The industry is changing," Nudo adds, "and we want to make sure that all booksellers continue to look to PW as the authority on which books they should be selling and why."
"In our ongoing mission to better serve the book publishing community, we will continue to seek ways to reach the marketplace in a more efficient and meaningful manner," said Bill McGorry, EVP - Reed Business Information.
The American Booksellers Association (ABA) offered this statement in support of this program: "ABA is delighted to be working with Publishers Weekly to help put copies of the magazine into the hands of our members," said Oren J. Teicher, ABA's COO. "We believe maximizing our members' access to as many sources of information as possible helps stores remain competitive in today's challenging retail environment."
