Giant Experiences Outage at Ciniza Refinery

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giant Industries, Inc. (NYSE: GI) announced today that a pump failure in its alkylation unit at its Ciniza refinery resulted in a fire last evening and Giant temporarily shut down all of the operating units at the refinery. Emergency personnel responded promptly and contained the fire. There were no injuries. Currently, all other units are being restarted and the refinery should be operating at normal levels in a few days. Giant is currently assessing the timing that will be required before the alkylation unit is returned to service.

The Ciniza refinery has a crude oil throughput capacity of 20,800 barrels per day. The refinery is located near Gallup, New Mexico.
