WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush said business needs less regulation and easier access to world markets for a healthy U.S. and global economy. Bush was host for a roundtable discussion with small and mid-sized business leaders at a FedEx facility in Washington D.C.
"One of the jobs of government is to make sure the entrepreneurial spirit is strong, creating an environment that encourages entrepreneurship, which means low taxes, less regulation, rational spending at the government level, opening markets overseas so that the entrepreneur can trade," said President George W. Bush.
"FedEx has long believed in the power of access which enables businesses to extend market reach, support innovation and strengthen growth opportunities," said William J. Logue, Executive Vice President, FedEx Express. "Access is even more important for small businesses as they seek to fully prosper in the global marketplace."
Under Armour, a Baltimore-based athletic apparel company, participated in the discussion with President, fellow business leaders and FedEx officials about the importance of an efficient and seamless supply chain.
"I started my business in 1996 from my grandmother's basement in Washington, DC," said Under Armour Chairman, CEO and President Kevin Plank. "Having access to the global marketplace has helped Under Armour grow into the international performance leader it is today, allowing athletes from around the world to experience the Under Armour advantage for themselves."
