Arbor Networks Unveils Arbor Peakflow SP 3.5 and Introduces New Threat Management System Device; A Unique Solution for Service Providers Which Offers Network-Wide Intelligence, Security and Threat Mitigation
Business Wire, Sept 12, 2006
LEXINGTON, Mass. -- Arbor Networks(R), a provider of core-to-core network security and operational performance for global business networks, today announced a new release (v3.5) of their Arbor Peakflow(R) SP solution. The Arbor Peakflow SP solution, a defacto-standard for the world's Service Providers, provides real-time and historical visibility into network flows and routing information traversing their networks. The solution automatically determines "normal" network behavior, and subsequently has the ability to quickly alert users to anomalies in this behavior; which could be the result of subscribers violating acceptable use policies, router misconfiguration, or malicious activity such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) via worm outbreaks or botnet attacks. Arbor Networks is pleased to also introduce their latest component in the Peakflow SP 3.5 solution - Threat Management System (TMS). TMS is a carrier-class, deep packet inspection device which allows Service Providers to quickly and intelligently mitigate security threats.
Other new features in the Peakflow SP 3.5 solution include:
--Unparalleled visibility and security of MPLS VPNs. As Service Providers migrate their customers from legacy VPN technologies (i.e. Frame Relay, ATM) to new MPLS VPNs, they now have the proper visibility into the performance of those VPNs and the potential to offer new revenue-generating management and security services to their customers.
--Centralized management for network visibility, threat detection and mitigation. Now a single console can 1) Provide customers a holistic view of their network performance 2) Automatically alert them to abnormalities or security threats and 3) Allow them to execute a variety of mitigation methods such as: using the Arbor Networks' Threat Management System, BGPFlowSpec or 3rd party products.
In an April 2006 Gartner report, "Next-Generation Carrier Networks Demand New Security Measures (Executive Summary)," John S. Mazur, Research Director, said, "Network service providers (NSPs), as critical infrastructure providers, must meet a high standard for reliability and security against a variety of constantly evolving threats. As their network infrastructure migrates from distinct, proprietary networks to converged networks based on Internet Protocol (IP), they are at increased risk from cyberthreats." The report goes on to say "As NSPs' IP virtual private network (VPN) offerings assume increased responsibility for the IP layer, NSPs' customers will demand IP layer security equal to, or better than, their own. Offering managed security for their VPN services can be the answer to improved network reliability and profitability."
"More than 70% of the world's leading Internet Service Providers rely on the Arbor Peakflow SP solution to analyze and protect their business critical networks, said Paul Morville, Vice President of Product Management, Arbor Networks. "With the release of Peakflow SP 3.5 and its new Threat Management System, we are ensuring that our valued service provider customers can: 1) Overcome the network security challenges they face today and in the future. 2) Maintain business-critical network services for their customers and 3) Efficiently deploy and manage next-generation, managed security services from within the provider cloud."
