Rapid7's NeXpose Enhances George Washington University Law School's Network Security Infrastructure
Business Wire, Sept 12, 2006
BOSTON -- GWU Law School Installs NeXpose Vulnerability Management Appliance to Support Current Security Systems and Optimize Protection of Its Digital Assets
Rapid7 today announced that George Washington University Law School has installed the NeXpose vulnerability management appliance to augment its network security solutions. NeXpose helps the GWU Law School data center broaden its network protection capabilities and accelerate the threat discovery process.
"NeXpose is like a third-party auditor, making sure our intrusion detection and patch management systems are doing their jobs," stated Mike Briggs, director of information technology, George Washington University Law School. "We've discovered issues we didn't know we had and were able to pass them on to the next cycle of patch management.
"The remediation report really makes NeXpose stand out because it enhances our patch management by telling us exactly what we need to do to fix the problem. NeXpose is also very hands off because it has the ability to automate network scans."
Briggs noted several features in NeXpose that impacted their decision to purchase the product. "The ease of use and the Web-based interface were really appealing, as was the quality of the signature patterns and the frequency with which they are updated. Since installing NeXpose, we haven't really found any false positives."
Among the different types of deployment offered (software, plug-and-play appliance and hosted services), GWU Law School selected the NeXpose appliance.
"The fact NeXpose was available as an appliance tipped the scales when weighing which solution we should go with," stated Briggs. "I like the convenience of appliances and the NeXpose appliance offers us a lower total cost of ownership."
GWU Law School was impressed with Rapid7's customer service as well as its product's capabilities. "The turnaround time from order to delivery was a matter of days," stated Briggs. "Within a month from our first contact with the company, we had already performed several network scans."
