Business Wire, Sept 13, 2006
PARIS -- KFC International, the world's most popular chicken restaurant chain, announced today a partnership with the NBA in France as part of NBA Europe Live Tour presented by EA SPORTS(TM). In conjunction with this partnership, KFC France has launched the "Smash Your Hunger" ("Smash Ta Faim") contest, where the winner will have a chance to win a free KFC product for everyone in France. KFC France is part of Yum! Restaurants International (YRI), a division of Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE: YUM), the world's largest restaurant company in terms of system units.
KFC France launched the "Smash Your Hunger" ("Smash Ta Faim") contest on September 5, the same day the San Antonio Spurs established their training camp in France. The San Antonio Spurs will play a game against the Adecco ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne club at the Astroballe of Villeurbanne on October 5, and two-time Euroleague Basketball Champions Maccabi Elite Tel-Aviv in the Paris-Bercy arena on October 8.
KFC France and the NBA's partnership illustrates the values that are dear to the company - commitment, friendliness, and excellence - and reinforces the company's close relationship with its young, urban and dynamic customer base who are sports fans that are particularly interested in basketball.
A unique contest
KFC France customers can participate in the "Smash Your Hunger" ("Smash Ta Faim") contest at www.smash-ta-faim.com until September 29. The goal of the contest is to score as many basketball shots as possible, advancing from level to level. The winner of the online contest will have the chance to score a three-point basket during one of the timeouts in the game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Maccabi Elite Tel-Aviv in front of 13,500 spectators at the Paris-Bercy arena. If the person makes the shot, everyone in France will win a free KFC product.
Thousands of prizes to win in KFC France restaurants
In addition to the contest, KFC customers can win thousands of prizes at restaurants across France due to interactive SMS terminals with special computer chips in the restaurants. To play, KFC customers can call the number indicated on the terminal, place the telephone near the chip, and hang up. Several seconds later, an SMS will arrive to tell the player whether he or she has won one of the many prizes available.
