Occam Networks' Broadband Loop Carrier Delivers Superior Solution to Westphalia Telephone Company; Occam Also Selected to Provide Active Fiber Solution
Business Wire, Sept 14, 2006
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Occam Networks(R) Inc. (OTCBB:OCNW), a supplier of innovative Ethernet- and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies, announced today that Westphalia Telephone Company has selected the company's Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) 6000(TM) System to replace an existing broadband access solution installed in Westphalia's Michigan network.
"We made the decision to deploy Occam Networks BLC 6000 to improve our network reliability and service quality," said Dave Fox, president of Westphalia Telephone Company. "We found the Occam solution also enables us to actually increase our bandwidth enough to offer customers an additional simultaneous video stream."
Westphalia offers triple play services via ADSL2 and realized it needed to replace its existing broadband access switch to ensure service quality. Combined with deploying Occam's BLC, Westphalia is incorporating head-end routers and CPE from Occam's OPAN (Occam Partner Alliance Network) partners for a full open standard end-to-end solution. The new, combined solution gives Westphalia an increased footprint for providing triple play services and a migration path for offering HD video packages.
"Occam is also providing active fiber to Westphalia's CLEC operations," Mr. Fox added. "We are installing Occam's BLC 6312 for active ADSL2 subscribers, the BLC 6314 for GigE transport rings and Occam's 2343 ONT (Optical Network Terminal) to terminate the fiber at subscribers' homes."
Westphalia also implemented OccamView 5.0 to manage the access network efficiently and economically.
"We are delighted Occam was able to supply Westphalia with a highly-reliable and innovative solution, as well as provide increased bandwidth enabling the company to offer subscribers an additional simultaneous video stream," said Russ Sharer, vice president of sales and marketing at Occam. "Furthermore, our active fiber solution provides several benefits over more complex PON technology."
