Fairchild Semiconductor Examines the Role of ``Digital'' in the Power Management Market at the 2006 Digital Power Forum Conference

Business Wire, Sept 14, 2006

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE:FCS), the leading global supplier of high-performance products that optimize system power, will offer insights on digital power management at the 2006 Digital Power Forum (DPF '06) on September 18-20 in Richardson, Texas. This international conference focuses on the latest practical advancements related to the use of digital power control techniques in electronic systems.

"An Energy Efficiency Perspective on Digital Power Management," to be presented by Francesco Carbolante, Fairchild's senior director, Advanced Technology, is structured to help design engineers better understand trade-offs in circuit implementation so they can extract the maximum value from newly available digital capabilities. The presentation on Wednesday, September 20, will explore such factors as cost, infrastructure and perceptions of the value proposition. Carbolante will also examine why digital control has experienced a slow rate of market penetration in the power management segment.

"Early on, Fairchild recognized the importance of digital functions in power ICs," says Dr. Reno Rossetti, senior director, Strategy, Analog Products Group. "We have developed an array of mixed-signal technologies, such as our Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) portfolio of processes, which allows the use of bipolar transistors for precision analog, advanced CMOS technology for digital functions, and DMOS for monolithic power transistors. The result is an offering of highly integrated power ICs. Fairchild, The PowerFranchise(R), also offers a complete set of solutions from milliwatts to kilowatts for high-power and low 'ON' resistance applications, as exemplified by our monolithic ICs working in concert with our discrete power transistors."

Rossetti, a well-known industry expert, is part of the DPF '06 Advisory Committee. This committee was significantly expanded this year to reflect the growth of digital power management in traditionally analog spaces.
