Town of Cary, North Carolina Delivers Valuable Information with MapInfo® Location Intelligence; MapXtreme®-based Web Site Provides Residents and Town Officials with Instantaneous Access to Local Information and Events
Business Wire, Sept 18, 2006
TROY, N.Y. -- MapInfo Corporation (NASDAQ: MAPS), the leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, today announced that the Town of Cary, North Carolina is utilizing MapInfo location intelligence solutions to create an innovative interactive Web Site to keep residents and local employees apprised of new developments, seasonal town services and special projects. Maps Online, the Town of Cary's location intelligent Web Site, is available at www.townofcary.org. Maps Online was developed with MapInfo MapXtreme(R), which enables current and prospective residents and town officials to get instantaneous and visual access to the local information they need and want in a very efficient manner.
Cary, a thriving community located between Raleigh and the renowned Research Triangle Park, is dubbed "Technology Town of North Carolina." Maps Online provides external access for Cary's residents, visitors and town employees across all departments, including Planning, Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Utilities and Public Safety. The interactive site enables residents to conduct searches based upon their specific location to secure answers to questions such as what voting district they are in or where the park nearest their home is located and what amenities are available there. The site also allows users to search for specific properties and provides the most up-to-date property information regarding zoning, elevation and utility information, which is ideal for a resident buying a new home or a town official considering new developments and making expansion decisions.
"Since 1989, the Town Council has been working with the Technology Services department to use MapInfo to link Cary citizens and employees more closely with their local government," said Mike Mull, applications manager, Town of Cary. "Our goal when we started with MapInfo was to develop a site that would serve as our primary communication tool to reach our residents. The first phase of Maps Online far surpassed our expectation for functionality and flexibility. We have additional plans to upgrade the site and make it an even more invaluable asset."
"The Town of Cary site exemplifies the power of location intelligence technology to help municipalities provide a central resource for residents and keep them informed of what is going on in their community," said Mike Hickey, chief operating officer, MapInfo. "From finding out zoning restrictions on a property to learning where the nearest public tennis courts are located, MapInfo solutions enable residents to get immediate access to information."
The Town of Cary's Web site is designed and hosted by JCH GeoInfo Solutions, Inc., a MapInfo Partner.
