Loblaw Doubles Size of Teradata Data Warehouse to Meet Demand for More Sophisticated Analysis and Expanded Store-Level Forecasting; Canada's Leading Grocery Distributor Addresses Supply-Chain Issues with New Technology
Business Wire, Sept 18, 2006
TORONTO -- Loblaw's Teradata Data Warehouse Now One of the Two Largest in Canada
Loblaw Companies Limited, the largest grocery retailer in Canada, has announced a 100 percent increase in the size of its data warehouse and the expanded use of Professional Services from Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR). The new system will help Loblaw move to a significantly more dynamic data environment, add functionality to its enterprise system, integrate all corporate information and provide business users with more timely and accurate analytics.
Loblaw has been using data warehouse technology from Teradata since 1996, and deployed Teradata's Demand Chain Management (DCM) forecasting applications in 2004. The expansion of the company's data warehouse was driven by the move to extend demand forecasting to cover all 1,200 Loblaw retail locations to help optimize order forecasting and improve store-level product fulfillment.
"The new technology helps us balance our efforts to improve in-stock positions to better serve our customers with the need to keep inventory costs under control. The Teradata data warehouse combined with the DCM application will minimize our out-of-stocks while reducing safety stock levels," said Roman Coba, senior vice president and chief information officer of Loblaw.
"Loblaw is innovatively using Teradata's data warehouse and DCM tools to drive improvements throughout its organization, from procurement through point-of-sale. This is critical as the retail business in Canada continues to get more competitive," said Rick Makos, president of Teradata in Canada.
