Privaris Selects AuthenTec Slide Fingerprint Sensors for New plusID Handheld Biometric Security Device
Business Wire, Sept 19, 2006
MELBOURNE, Fla. & BALTIMORE -- Privaris(R), a leading provider of wireless biometric security solutions, has selected slide fingerprint sensors from AuthenTec for its new mobile, handheld device that enhances security while eliminating the need for employees to use multiple access cards and passwords. The announcement was made as part of the 2006 Biometrics Technology Expo taking place in Baltimore this week.
Privaris selected the EntrePad 2510 fingerprint sensor from AuthenTec, the world leader in fingerprint sensor security, innovation and sales, for the plusID(TM) universal, personal biometric device. Users simply slide a finger across the fingerprint sensor on the key-fob-sized device to authenticate their identity and securely access buildings, vehicle gates, local and remote computers and networks, and online or onsite financial transactions.
Privaris has used AuthenTec touch sensors in previous biometric devices, but this marks the first implementation of a slide sensor by the company.
The plusID incorporates features not available in other biometric security products:
--supports multiple security applications (physical and logical access) in a single device
--can be used in place of traditional access cards with existing reader infrastructure (HID, Indala and Kantech), making the addition of biometrics fast and cost-effective
--protects privacy by securely storing and matching fingerprint templates on the user's own device - never exposing biometric data to external servers, readers or databases
plusID75 is the first product in Privaris' new plusID line of self-contained biometric security products.
AuthenTec's EntrePad is the most popular sensor for PCs, cell phones and access control devices worldwide. The sensor reduces the risk of theft and fraud -- allowing authorized users to easily and quickly access their files by simply touching or sliding their finger across the sensor surface, while restricting access to the computer and its files to only those enrolled. AuthenTec sensors also eliminate the need to remember cumbersome passwords. The sensor features AuthenTec's extremely accurate TruePrint and TrueMatch technologies, the only solution in production that reads fingerprints below the surface of the skin - enabling the sensor to read virtually every fingerprint, anywhere.
"We have chosen AuthenTec sensors for the plusID family of products for their accuracy, ease of use, and cost effectiveness," said John Petze, CEO of Privaris. "AuthenTec's EntrePad 2510 is a key element to Privaris delivering a convenient, personal biometric device that fits easily into our everyday lives."
"Privaris is pioneering mobile biometric security that provides true security, convenience and privacy, in a single device," said Larry Ciaccia, President of AuthenTec. "We are pleased by Privaris' continued selection of AuthenTec sensors throughout its product line."
