G Data Wins Editor's Choice With Commtouch Anti-Spam Technology; PC Professionell Magazine and AV-Test Rank Anti-Spam Solutions in Leading Security Suites, Including Symantec, Trend Micro and McAfee
Business Wire, Sept 19, 2006
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- In laboratory tests of 10 email security software suites, PC Professionell selected G Data -- which uses Commtouch technology -- as Editor's Choice for its anti-spam capability.
Other companies participating in the tests included: Symantec, Kaspersky, McAfee, Computer Associates, Zone Labs, Trend Micro, and others.
G-data placed first in all the relevant categories for measuring anti-spam: best spam detection rate, best phishing detection rate, and the fewest errors (false positives) compared with the other solutions tested.
The tests -- which were conducted by PC Professionell in collaboration with AV-Test, an independent laboratory -- involved sending 65,000 messages, including spam, phishing/fraud, plus legitimate opt-in newsletters, to inboxes protected by 10 market leading security suites.
"The best spam filter is the one that recognizes the most unwanted messages while at the same time filtering out the fewest real e-mails," the article states. "Impossible, you say? It's possible. Our test winner, G Data AVK Internet Security 2006, can do it.... G Data detected 96 percent of junk mail without requiring any special configuration or having to be trained. An excellent performance compared to its competitors.... G Data's excellent result is due in large part to its Spam Outbreak Shield. This module already blocks a significant share of unwanted and dangerous e-mails using current data from the servers of anti-spam specialist Commtouch."
"To be ranked #1 in a leading German publication is a major accomplishment, since the standards in Germany are perhaps the highest in the world," said Dirk Hochstrate, Managing Director of G Data. "Commtouch technology puts us head and shoulders above the competition; content-based anti-spam technology simply does not work, especially against the newest spam trends, such as image-based spam. In addition, anti-spam solutions should require zero maintenance. With Commtouch, the solution is always 100% updated in real time, meaning no lags in detection."
F-Secure took second place with 90.1% detection, Symantec third (89.0%), Kaspersky (86.9%), McAfee (83.6%), and in eighth place, Computer Associates (75.9%).
Germany's G Data is one of over 40 partners that have integrated Commtouch's messaging security service solutions. G Data sells its software -- directly and through partners -- in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Holland, the United States, Japan, and elsewhere.
