Appian Highlights Commitment to BPM Standards Leadership; Company Executive to Present on the Value of Combined BPM and SOA Implementations at Workflow Management Coalition Conference

Business Wire, Sept 19, 2006

VIENNA, Va. -- Appian Corporation, the leading provider of Business Process Management suites (BPMS), today announced Phil Larson, Director of Product Management, has been chosen to present at the BPM Standards Tutorial Day as part of the WfMC (Workflow Management Coalition) European Fall Meeting in Mainz, Germany from September 26 - 29, 2006. Mr. Larson was elected to the position of Industry Liaison Chair for the WfMC last March, where he plays a critical role in working with industry vendors and the coalition members to help determine and define the standards for software terminology, interoperability and connectivity between workflow products.

The WfMC is a non-profit, international organization that consists of more than 300 members from workflow vendors, users, analysts and university/research groups, and this speaking engagement further illustrates Appian's continued commitment and leadership to the standards community through its active participation with the WfMC, OMG and OASIS organizations.

Mr. Larson's presentation, titled "The Relationship between BPM and SOA - How to leverage what you have," will take place during the September 29, 2006 BPM Standards Tutorial Day, and he will discuss the need for organizations to anticipate and adapt quickly to change. Specifically, he will focus on how BPM and SOA technologies are combining to form the preferred next generation framework for agile business applications. Mr. Larson will also illustrate how these two technologies allow customers to drive both efficiency and adaptability in organizational business processes.

"Appian is committed to driving BPM industry standards, and our active participation with leading organizations, like the WfMC, advances this cause," said Mr. Larson. "As the market evolves, Appian is leveraging our strong customer track record to take a leadership role in standards development and promote the adoption of specifications that empower users to engage in collaborative, process-driven work."

In addition to its involvement with the WfMC and the OMG, Appian is also an active member of OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards), a not-for-profit, international consortium that drives the development, convergence, and adoption of e-business standards. The consortium produces open standards for Web services, security, e-business, and standardization efforts in the public sector and for application-specific markets.
